Indian Government Bans Employees From Using VPNs

Govt employees banned from using VPN, Google Drive and other cloud services in India.

Recently, the central government directed government employees to avoid third-party VPNs or cloud storage options.

They must adhere to the new order or they will be punished by their respective CISOs/department head.

The orders are only for government employees, and not for regular internet users.

The government of India has asked government employees must avoid using third-party VPN services and cloud storage options.

All employees are required to adhere to these new rules strictly. If they are noncompliant, they risk landing in hot water with their heads of department.

This guidance was introduced just days after the leading VPN provider, NordVPN, shut down its servers in India.

The government's new “zero-tolerance” policy on digital anonymity aims to tackle the escalating threat of cybercrime and terrorist activity.

However, experts believe this order on VPN will curb freedom on the internet.
